Joel Embiid: Rookie Sensation or Twitter Star?

It has recently occurred to me that Philadelphia 76ers Rookie Center Joel Embiid is an entertainer in multiple ways. Off the court, Embiid partakes in antics via the internet on the popular micro-blog Twitter. While Embiid might be a “kid” to some, the reality is he is a professional now. Sometimes these antics are quite humorous, and other times unbearably uncomfortable.

Before I divulge into the never-ending Twitter saga that is Joel Embiid, I would like to point out that the Rookie Center has yet to play a single second of NBA basketball and has over 350,000 followers.

That doesn’t just happen overnight. You have to brand yourself and give yourself an identity for something like that to just happen, especially for a rookie. Let’s take a look at one of the more uncomfortable moments the young rookie had on Twitter.

Yeah. That happened. And he was completely serious. Little did Embiid know that Kim Kardashian was indeed married to famous rapper Kanye West. There is an element of comedy in this situation as well, seeing as though the young man took the bull by the horns and basically said “Hey Kim, you’re hot.” The Twitter-verse seemingly stopped moving all at once to acknowledge that this young 20-something just made a shout-out to probably one of the most well-known celebrities of today. The tweet made over 25,000 re-tweets and well over 15,000 favorites.
